Clement's Kindness Caravans to Carowinds
The annual summertime trip to Carowinds is often on the calendar for many families in the Upstate. But when you have a child with cancer or a serious blood disorder, it may be difficult to find the extra funds of $250 or more for a family of four. Fortunately, with your support, Clement's Kindness is able to sponsor a yearly trip to Carowinds for patients under the age of 13 and their immediate family members.
This year, we had 31 families and a total of 132 people participate. Twenty-two of the families that attended were families that were living with cancer or had been treated for cancer. The other nine families that attended included children living with blood disorders, such as sickle cell anemia, hemophilia, or aplastic anemia.
Families enjoyed a relaxing ride on a chartered bus with snacks, drinks and a movie. Once everyone arrived at the park, the families were given their tickets and the day was theirs to enjoy together. At 3:30, everyone gathered to enjoy a picnic lunch catered by Carowinds including fabulous fried chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, macaroni and cheese, chips, drinks and cookies for dessert.
This year, several of the families included five or more children and thanks to Clement's Kindness, their siblings were able to share in this adventure. Many families would not be able to afford this trip, which makes it a true blessing for kids and parents alike. The annual trip to Carowinds provides a great time for families to share in a day together and support each other as they face the many challenges ahead.
