PGA Nationwide Tour event to be held May 17-20 at three area courses

BMW golf tourney to aid 28 charities

South Carolina Charities Inc. has selected 28 charities to benefit from its BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corp. golf tournament in 2012.

The charities selected by the host organization also will have the opportunity to earn additional money in addition to the tournament proceeds that will be split among the groups.

Since 2001, the tournament has raised more than $8.6 million for more than 150 charities.

"These 28 organizations are a diverse mix of new and returning organizations that benefit individuals across our state," said Bob Nitto, president of South Carolina Charities, Inc.

Charities for 2012 include 100 Black Men of the Upsate, A Child's Haven, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Upstate, Charles Lea Center Foundation, Child Evangelism Fellowship of Greenville, Child Evangelism Fellowship of Spartanburg and Cherokee Counties.

Other recipients are Clement's Kindness, Defenders for Children, Dogs for Autism, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, First Tee of Greenville, Greenville Tech Foundation, Inc., Habitat for Humanity of Anderson County, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Hidden Treasure Chrisitian School, Loaves & Fishes, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Mobile Meals of Spartanburg.

Rounding out the list are MCCAA, New Foundations Home for Children, Operation Homefront of SC, Pendelton Place, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas, Scottish Rite Foundation, Spiritual 2-A-Days and The Walker Foundation for the SC School for the Deaf and Blind.

The charities can raise funds by participating in tournament-sponsored programs, such as ticket sales, Pro-Am foursome sales and by providing volunteers.

The entire proceeds from charity sales of one-day and four-day general admission tickets to the tournament, priced at $10 and $25, will go to the charities.

In addition, the organizations can earn funds by fielding golf teams for the one-day Pro-Ams.

Other programs also are available that offer financial opportunities to charities that solicit local amateur golfers to participate.

"These programs provide risk-free opportunities for charities to earn funds to support their organization, which great for everyone involved," said Darin MacDonald, tournament director.

The 2012 tournament is scheduled for May 17-20 at Thornblade Club, The Carolina Country Club and Greenville Country Club's Chanticleer course.

It is the only tournament on the PGA Tour's Nationwide Tour where amateurs and celebrities are grouped with Nationwide Tour professionals in a four-day better-ball competition over three courses.
